Doctor doesn’t always know best

Prescription drug addiction is on the rise, and the ones succumbing to addiction are not necessarily doing so intentionally. I personally know a person who became addicted to prescription drugs because her physician neglected to follow prescription protocol. When my friend discovered her addiction, her doctor prescribed a powerful narcotic most often used to help heroine addicts overcome their addiction. Because of its highly addictive properties, that drug was supposed to have been administered by medical personnel at a clinic. Unfortunately, the doctor neglected to tell that to my friend and gave the prescription directly to her. In the end, my friend had to kick two addictions and endure 5 years of addiction meetings, all because her trusted physician failed her. If something doesn’t feel right about a doctor’s advice, trust your gut and get a second opinion.
