Time: we all waste it

Everyone wastes time in some way. I don't know of anyone who can say they have made the most of every moment of their life. However, we can all work on making better use of the time allotted to us. Shannon of Mommy, Inc. participated in the Thursday Thirteen meme (?) and listed thirteen hints to defeat the time stealers. As with any list, most likely not everything listed will apply to you, but I am sure you will find at least one suggestion that would make a difference in your life.

So tell me, are you trying to maximize your time and if so for what reason (smile)?

Yes, I am trying to make better use of my time. Two of my biggest faults are procrastination and a chronic inability to determine priorities. Therefore, I end up wasting a TON of time and am always pushing deadlines. ARGH! I hate that about me and want to change!

Do you ever make lists at all?

Hey, I'm back now, Frank. Sorry for the delay.

Yes, I make lists, and they do help keep me focused, but I run into the problem that unscheduled events and happenings side track me and destroy my list or schedule. I just need to keep working at it.

It sure can be difficult to account for those unscheduled situations. It seems sometimes that much of the day is made up of moments like that.
What I've found to be useful is not making my list too unattainable. If I put 5 things on my list and my limitations stop me from accomplishing them, I shorten that list. Once I get to a list size that I can accomplish, I stick with that amount for awhile and then slowly add another item to that list.
Before long, that list may grown.

I think that is part of my problem. My lists will average between 15 and 20 items. Maybe I just try to do too much and that's why I can't get it all done?

I think many of us have a tendency, especially when we have children, to have "long lists."
Maybe, shortening that list and seeing how those items get accomplished, then slowly adding on will pay dividends.

Frank, I will try your suggestion. It certainly makes sense. Thanks for the advice. :)

Fergie, I saw myself in far too many of the items in that list. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
